So you heard that petrol scooters get great mileage and now you'd like to get better mileage? Well read on for some easy ideas for improving your scooter's gas mileage. No more blowing money at the pump!
1) Go easy on your acceleration, Earnhardt!
Just like a car, how you operate your motor scooter will have a tremendous effect on how many miles you are able to obtain from your scooter per gallon. Out of all of the fuel-saving ideas, the use of your acceleration will have the greatest effect on your overall fuel consumption. The key is to increase your speed slowly, instead of trying to chirp the tires from a standstill.
2) Inflate your tires to the correct PSI
If you are riding on under or overinflated tires, you are not only wasting fuel, but you're putting yourself at risk. Check your tires' PSI (pounds per square inch), and adjust them accordingly. Keep in mind that your tire pressure will climb in the hotter months and go down in cooler months.
3) Keep your motor scooter tuned up
Many people think of a motors scooter as a set it and forget it thing. They buy it, ride it, and rarely think of maintaining it. But just like a car, your scooter needs some TLC to run properly and continue getting great mileage. Keep your scooter in good mechanical order, and you'll be rewarded with scooter longevity and exceptional gas mileage.
4) Change your oil frequently
You change your oil in your car every 3,000 to 6,000 miles, I assume. But it can take some serious riding for your scooter to see that kind of use, especially if you use yours primarily for neighborhood riding. Regardless of mileage, you should try to change your oil at the beginning of every riding season.
To illustrate, if your riding season is in the summer months, from May through September, but you usually only put 700 miles on your petrol scooter over those months, you should still change your oil every May.
So what kind of mileage can you expect to get out of your scooter with these tips? The answer varies quite a bit depending on the type and size of your petrol scooter, but you are looking at significant savings.
Keep in mind that some smaller scooters only have a useful life of 20,000 or so miles, and these ideas can also make a difference in the lifespan of your scooter.

Vespa Scooter Longings
By David T Scott
One of the most enduring scenes in cinema is in the classic film Roman Holiday. The film starred the immortal and ever beautiful Audrey Hepburn (Oh how I love her!) and the talented Gregory Peck. Hepburn played a princess who was visiting Rome for a state visit. Tired of her strictly regimented life, she escaped the confines of her embassy, disguised herself as a commoner and began touring the streets of Rome. There she met Gregory Peck who played an American correspondent in Italy. The movie was basically a sight-seeing tour of the streets and Rome, but it is very memorable because they both toured the scenic spots in a Vespa scooter.
This singular scene catapulted the Vespa as a cultural icon. Though the movie was not really what you call a happy ending for they both did not end up with each other (oops sorry for ruining the plot to those who have not seen it), generations of girls dream of becoming Audrey Hepburn being swept away by their own Gregory Peck driving into the sunset in their very own Vespa.
Vespa scooters have their cult following. Like the Volkswagen or the Mini Cooper, Vespas are liked because of their unique (some consider cute as the more appropriate description) design. Vespa's design was derived from wasps hence the name. As a matter of fact, wasp if translated into Italian is called vespa. The Vespa was first made after world war two and since then its design saw little deviations. Scooters are perfect for the old narrow and cobbled Roman streets. It reflects the olden times when people are gentler, the days seemed slower and the air was full of romanticism. From those famed cobbled streets Vespa spread throughout the world. Perhaps because this little mode of transportation is perfect for weaving in and out in today's heavily congested roads or perhaps Italians are really talented designers of vehicles. (I am sure most of you will agree with me on this point. I have yet to meet somebody who finds the highly desirable and exotic Ferrari sports cars as ugly.)
Ever since I had seen a Vespa in Roman Holiday, I always wanted to buy one for myself. There were only two problems that presented themselves to me. First, there is no Vespa being sold in our region and second, even if there are Vespas in our island, I cannot afford one. The closest things that resemble a Vespa in our place are the delivery scooters of Yellow Cab Pizza. I even joked to my cousin that we should steal one, remove the delivery compartment at the back and repaint it with any color not yellow. I would even dream of accessorizing them with parts from scooter, but of course I know that all this will just be a dream to me. Maybe in my mind's eye, I see myself also driving a Vespa, sweeping my own Audrey Hepburn off her feet and we will both ride off into the sunset.

Looking to ditch that gas hog of a car and pick up an economical motor scooter? You're going to return home with a model that will do nothing more than collect dust in your carport unless you follow a few simple guidelines.
Power
Motor scooters can come in a wide selection of shapes and sizes, from small, toy-like scooters to large motorcycle-like scooters. Consider your needs and how you'll be using the scooter. If it's just for corner jaunts, there are any number of small, cheap scooters that would fit the bill. Perhaps a 125 or 150 would be the largest to consider.
Fit
Many scooter shoppers choose a style, rather than purchasing a fit. This is the surest way to ensure a wasted investment. Fit becomes increasingly important as mileage increases and is one of the primary determinants of safety, so don't ignore it!
Ensure that your hands are in a good, comfortable position when riding, and that the controls, brakes, and clutch are well within reach. Finally, check the seat. While soft seats seem to be more comfortable at first, they usually result in soreness faster than firmer seats.
Style
Check out various models online before you head into a showroom where sales pressure will often result in you leaving with something you would not have purchased without pressure. There are plenty of new, sleek models, but you'll also find a wide variety of vintage models for sale.
Price
Similar to cars, motor scooters depreciate in value immediately upon leaving the lot. Exacerbating this situation is that scooters usually don't receive the same amount of yearly mileage as cars or even motorcycles, so the immediate depreciation is a harder hit. In a year, you could see a 25 percent or more decrease in resale value for a scooter that has barely been touched.
For this reason, be sure to look at more than just local dealers. There are several good resellers online who will provide you with a good selection at good prices. And you can find these motors scooters without putting up with pushy salesmen!
So remember, before you got to your local showroom and buy that flashy new model, be sure that you're clear on how you intend to use your new scooter, and then consider the power, style, fit, and cost.

Vespa Motor Scooters - One of the Best Scooters on the Market
By Rob Buenaventura
One of the oldest names in the scooter industry is the Vespa motor scooter. It has been manufactured since 1946 and has remained one of the most demanded scooters on the market until today. There are numerous models of Vespa motor scooters ranging in size from 50cc to 200cc.
While electric scooters come in two, three or four-wheel models the Vespa is all about the power. One of the scooters has a 200cc engine and is considered one of the fastest, most powerful Vespa scooters ever made. With a liquid cooled, four stroke, four valve engine, and its powerful engine has the ability to pass any kind of traffic it may encounter. With the larger, more powerful engine, the Vespa motor scooter is very quietly and emits extremely low levels of pollution.
On some scooters there is 12 inch wheel equipped with both front and rear hydraulic disc brakes. It comes with a good deal of storage space, where even two open faced helmets that can be stored under the seat plus a glove compartment when numerous extras can be stored. Many Vespa scooters are good for commuting, and while they aren't as powers as some other brands of Vespa, they are quite a gas saver and amazingly fun to drive. When you surround yourself with the Vespa motor scooter style, performance and safety, it is both fun and functional.
Vespa scooters have been recognized for their painted, pressed steel unibody from their original release. The unibody merges a complete cowling for the engine, enclosing the mechanism and hiding grease and dirt. In addition, there is a flat floorboard for foot protection, a prominent front fairing that gives wind protection and is considered a very stable unit. With all of that the Vespa motor scooter remains endearing as well as durable.
Globally successful, the Vespa motor scooter has enjoyed a noteworthy popularity and has become a symbol of stylish personal transportation. The United States scooter market has expanded immensely over the last few years due mainly to American consumer's reaction to gas price increases. They are looking at the scooter as a stylish alternative to higher prices automobiles and find the smaller size great for navigating city streets and suburban roads.
Once you get your scooter, you will bond and in a way inherit the personality traits of each other. You will ride with the freedom of a freewheeling, intrepid soul as your Vespa carries you on a wonderful adventure of speed and maneuverability. The wind in your hair, air rushing by your ears as you zip past curious onlookers - it will be a rid that feels like absolute freedom. You will zip effortlessly in and out of congested traffic.
One of the added bonuses comes in helping to reduce gas emissions and protect the environment. Vespa scooters that can achieve speeds between 40 mph and 100 mph get fuel economy as good as 70 mpg. As you whisk along at an incredible 60 miles per our, you will use a meager two and one half gallons of gasoline per 150 miles of road travel.
